Onancock Sails Forward - Sail 250 Virginia Tall Ships Affiliate Harbor

About

As the nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of American independence, the historic waterfront town of Onancock invites visitors to experience SAIL250 in a relaxed Chesapeake Bay setting.

Onancock Sails Forward welcomes the tall ship Lady Maryland to the harbor for a weekend of maritime history, dockside exploration, and waterfront festivities as part of Sail Virginia 2026.

The Onancock Marina is an official Affiliate Harbor in the statewide Sail 250 network coordinated by Festevents and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission. While the largest fleet gathers in Norfolk, Onancock offers a more intimate way to step aboard a tall ship, meet the crew, and explore maritime heritage up close.

Visitors can tour Lady Maryland, enjoy live music and performances, browse art and craft vendors, experience maritime demonstrations, and take part in family-friendly activities throughout the waterfront and historic downtown.

Travelers are encouraged to make a week of it on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The Sail 250 celebration continues the following weekend when nearby Cape Charles hosts SailFest Cape Charles from June 19–21. Between events, visitors can explore barrier island beaches, kayak coastal waterways, discover historic towns, and enjoy fresh Chesapeake seafood.
