'You had better remove the records": Historic House Opening on Virginia Garden Week Tour

About

The Garden Club of Virginia's Historic Garden Week 2026 features several lovely homes in downtown Leesburg, including the house purportedly used to temporarily store government documents during the War of 1812 when the British burned Washington. The Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and many other papers of state were hidden first in a home on Cornwall Street in Leesburg and later taken south of the town to another private residence. Join members of Loudoun VA250 as they share the story of the documents' travels in August of 1814, as well as the rest of the fascinating history of one of the oldest houses in town.
