A Perfect Frenzy - Author Talk with Andrew Lawler

About

Book discussion and signing for pre-purchased copies of "A Perfect Frenzy, A Royal Governor, His Black Allies, and The Crisis That Spurred the American Revolution," by Andrew Lawler, Atlantic Monthly Press, ISBN-13: 978-0-8021 6413-1, 2025. Journalist and author Andrew Lawler discusses his original argument on the important and understudied American Revolutionary period in Virginia, 1775-1776, and topic of slavery, focusing heavily on Royal Governor, Lord John Murray, Earl of Dunmore and his resistance to the incipient American rebellion in the colony. He also brings in the Virginia aristocracy-led political and cultural reactions to Dunmore's call for slave emancipation, including the voices of Thomas Jefferson and others, and ties the stirrings of Black soldiers from Virginia in Britain's cause to Abraham Lincoln's later, more famous 1863 Emancipation Proclamation. This event is in part underwritten by the Amelia County Historical Society & The Friends of the James L. Hamner Library.
